Fredrick Douglass was a man of great resilience. He was born into slavery when slavery was still legal in some states. He attempted escape several times. It wasn't until 1838 that he finally succeeded.

Once free, he became a famous writer and speaker. His new fight in life was to abolish slavery. His autobiography, "Narrative Life od Frederick Douglas, an American Slave" became a best seller in the United states and Europe.
