ARGUMENT WRITING: INFORMATION COLLECTION
INFORMATION COLLECTION: HOMEWORK
Before you can generate a claim about an issue, you must collect evidence and information.
Sure, you may have some insight as to what you believe, you may use logic to generate your claim.
However, without proper evidence for BOTH sides of the issue, you weaken your claim.
The purpose of researching, or engaging in 'Information Collection', is to
get an idea of how others see the issue
build background knowledge on the subject
find evidence for both sides of the issue
discover what people are believe and say in favor or against the issue
and the most important...
