Find Out About School Emergencies

Sign Up Through Power School

The following information was shared at the last School Board Meeting.

Please be advised. This is only an option, but thought I'd share it with you.

Parents may sign up in PowerSchool parent portal for emergency messages

It never seems soon enough to communicate our plan concerning inclement weather or a school building heating or power emergency. Parents have the ability to update contact information in their PowerSchool parent portal to select how they wish to receive emergency alerts (text, voice, or e- mail). The steps below outline the procedure to view your contact information in PowerSchool so that you can opt in or opt out as desired:

 Go to http://powerschool.summithill.org.

 Enter your username and password and click the Submit button.

 Click on the Power Announcement button located on the left navigation bar.

 Click on the Expand All button to view all contact information and settings.

 Select the option(s) that you want to be contacted.

 Verify/modify the phone, e-mail, and cell phone information displayed.

 Select the types of messages that you want to receive:

a) Emergency Messages – (Everyone receives these)

b) School Cancellation – (Weather-related school closings or after school program cancellation)

c) Student Bulletins – (School-specific information)

d) General Announcements – (District-related information such as Parent News Briefs, Board of Education meeting highlights, student registration information, etc.)

 Click on the Save Preferences button to save your settings. (You can modify this information at any time as desired.)

We also post school closing information online at www.Emergencyclosings.com. This online website also electronically sends the information to local radio stations (WGN 720 and WBBM 780) and to local television stations (Channels 2, 5, 7, 9 (WGN), 32 (FOX), and to CLTV) for reporting to the public.
